Debatably the greatest season for coffee is quickly approaching, so BLOC Coffee Company wanted to be intentional in crafting an amazing coffee menu that celebrates the enticing flavors that are associated with autumn. There are so many different flavors that get overshadowed by the season of the “PSL”, so we intentionally crafted a menu that helps shed light on some these forgotten flavors. 

We began with one of the fundamental flavors of fall: the spiced apple. We intentionally crafted a simple syrup that incorporates apples with spices and herbs like thyme, rosemary, cardamom, nutmeg, and cinnamon. When combined with steam milk, this simple syrup is the baseline for our Spiced Apple Latte, creating a delightful blend of espresso, apple, and spice. When enjoying this beverage, you will feel like you are at your Grandma’s house for thanksgiving dinner, eating her world famous apple pie…  Only you will be BLOC, enjoying a delightful latte.

Fall is one of the best times of the year because it represents the changing of seasons. With this idea of change in mind, we attempted to craft another menu item that incorporated this idea of change into the experience of drinking the beverage.  From this concept, we crafted the Autumn Undertow. This beverage goes beyond the standard expectations of your usual latte or cappuccino, and is almost more of an experience than it is a beverage.  We begin by adding a small amount of our Spiced Apple Simple Syrup into a 4 oz. Gibraltar. We then pour 1 oz. of half and half without incorporating it into the simple syrup. Finally, we top the beverage with a single shot of espresso pulled directly on top of the half and half. The end result is a beverage that is extremely layered and designed to be consumed quickly. Therefore, the drinker initially enjoys the bitterness of the espresso, and the flavor quickly shifts to the creaminess of the half and half, and finally rounds out to the spiced apple finish of fall. This experience mirrors and complements the changing nature of the autumn season. After consuming this beverage, you will feel like you just went bobbing for apples and successfully pinned down an apple out of that bucket of water.
